Israel’s army said on Thursday its soldiers took operational control of the Gaza harbor, which was controlled by Palestinian militant group Hamas.

“In the operation, in which soldiers of the Combat Engineering Corps and the Air Force also participated, 10 terror tunnel shafts and four structures used for terror were destroyed, and 10 terrorists were killed. All buildings in the harbor area were cleared,” the Israeli army said in a statement.

It added: “Hamas… used the harbor as a training facility for their naval commando forces for planning and executing naval terror attacks. Under the guise of a civilian harbor, Hamas used the area for training and carrying out terror attacks, all the while using civilian and Gaza harbor police vessels.”

Additionally, the Israeli army said its troops found and destroyed weapons and equipment belonging to Hamas’ naval forces in Gaza City’s Al-Shati camp, the Times of Israel reported.

“The cache of weapons included diving equipment, firearms, and explosive devices. The [Israeli army] said paratroopers also located other weapons and explosives in the northern Gaza Strip overnight, following a gun battle with Hamas operatives,” the report added.

The Israeli army said its forces found “suicide vests, other explosive devices, RPGs, anti-tank missiles, and intelligence documents.”

Hamas did not immediately comment on the Israeli statements.

On the other hand, Palestinian authorities reported nine killed and many others injured as a result of a series of Israeli airstrikes on various areas in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.

Additionally, Israeli military “continued to storm Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza City, after storming it for the second time last night within 24 hours.”

The Al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement, said on social media: “Our fighters are still engaged in fierce clashes in the vicinity of the Al-Shifa Complex, and they ascertain that there have been confirmed casualties among the enemy forces.”
