Israeli envoy says international law is ‘not a suicide pact’

Israel on Thursday harshly criticized UN attempts to balance criticism about violations committed by both sides in the war raging in Gaza, insisting international law is “not a suicide pact.”

If a state cannot defend itself, “or is criticized for doing so in line with international law, inevitably terrorist organizations will become more and more emboldened to continue to deploy these methods, confident in continued international support,” Israeli ambassador Meirav Eilon Shahar said after the UN rights chief briefed member states on the situation.
