Iran on Sunday executed a man accused of involvement in a drone attack on a military facility in central Iran last year, which Tehran blamed on Israel.

According to state media, the individual, identified only as “Saeed,” collaborated with Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency in plotting to detonate a military site affiliated with Iran’s defense ministry in Isfahan province on January 28, 2023.

At the time, Iran had said that a drone attack aimed at a defense ministry-linked site in Isfahan had been thwarted. Tehran later accused Israel of orchestrating the incident. On February 10, 2023, Iran announced the arrest of the “main perpetrators” of the attack.

A state TV report said “Saeed” was apprehended in a neighboring country and extradited to Iran following the 2023 drone incident in Isfahan. The report did not specify the country of detention.

Earlier this year, Iran announced the execution of four Iranian Kurds detained in July 2022, convicted of collaborating with Israel in a plot against a military installation in Isfahan. Rights groups criticized their trial, describing it as grossly unfair.

Iran does not recognize Israel, and the two countries have been embroiled in a shadow war for decades.
