Director of United States National Intelligence James Clapper has resigned, Al Arabiya News Channel’s correspondent reported.

Clapper has held several key positions within the United States Intelligence Community. He served as the director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) from September 2001 until June 2006.

Retired Lt. General Ron Burgess, former director of the DIA, is a leading contender for director of national intelligence, according to US media reports.
