Published: Updated:

A mass shooting at the Mandalay Bay hotel and resort on the Las Vegas Strip took place Sunday night, leaving at least 580 dead and 500 wounded.

A gunman opened fire at a country music festival. Pictures taken at the scene showed revelers cowering in the street or running in terror, as well what appeared to be several bodies lying prone on the ground.

ISIS claims Las Vegas attack, says shooter converted to Islam months ago, but provides no evidence.

Police described the suspect as being a local Las Vegas man who acted alone and was not believed to be connected to any militant group, Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo told reporters.

Paddock shot himself before police entered the hotel room he was firing from, Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo told reporters.

Las Vegas shooter was a local man and doesn't belong to extremist groups, companion sought, police added.
