The United States administration is setting up an open show of what it is proof that Iran is supplying Houthi militias in Yemen with missiles, as indicated by four US officials to the BBC.
According to the officials, United States Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley is preparing to reveal this week components of a short-range ballistic missile that Houthi insurgents fired into Saudi Arabia at Defense Intelligence Agency headquarters at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, D.C..
Also, the BBC quoted a senior intelligence official as saying that Haley will also present other evidence of Iran's weapons proliferation and potential violations of UN sanctions, and of Iranian destabilization and threats to US allies in the region.
The ballistic missile was fired from Yemen on Nov. 4, striking near King Khalid International Airport in Saudi's capital city of Riyadh. Saudi defense forces intercepted it with a surface-to-air Patriot missile and turned it to shrapnel.
Saudi Crown Prince: Iran missile supply to Houthis ‘direct military aggression’
"We hold Iran responsible for this," said Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir five days after the attack. "They're the ones that provided the missiles. … We believe this could be considered an act of war."
An Iranian official denied his country’s responsibility for the missile, describing Saudi claims as "malicious, irresponsible, destructive and provocative."
Some media outlets circulated a photo that they have described as an image of debris from the missile, but NBC News reported the Saudi mission to the UN as saying that the Saudi government did not provide the image to the media.
