WATCH: Southwest airlines flight catches fire midair, makes emergency landing
A Southwest airlines flight heading to Los Angeles caught fire midair on Monday, and had to return to Salt Lake City Airport shortly after taking off.
According to Deseret news, the plane had an engine malfunction, and witnesses reported seeing flames on the aircraft’s right engine and wing.
The flight took off in the morning, and approximately 20-minutes into the trip the pilot turned around, the news site reported.
Nancy Volmer, a spokesperson for the Salt Lake City International Airport, confirmed that none of the passengers were injured, the Associated Press reported.
The company said that there were 110 passengers on board, and five crew members. They were placed on another flight back to Los Angeles.
