WATCH: Indonesian man yells ‘oh God’ as tsunami wave crushes homes on beachfront
An Indonesian man documented the moment a huge tsunami wave hit and destroyed several homes on a beachfront in front of the known Palu Grand Mall in Sulawesi.
The man was able to take a video from atop the roof of the mall, and is heard screaming at the people below to run or take cover.
“Run up, higher, higher!” the man is heard yelling to people trying to rush up the stairs to reach the mall’s roof as well. Towards the end of the video, he can be heard crying as he says: "Oh God, oh God."
The tsunami wave destroyed houses on the beachfront and flooded the main road overflowing cars, people and creating a river filled with remains of destroyed homes.
The Indonesian government on Monday had called for international help to deal with the aftermath of a devastating series on earthquakes and a tsunami in the island region of Sulawesi that killed at least 832 people.
President Joko Widodo "authorized us to accept international help for urgent disaster-response" the government's head of investment Tom Lembong said, as dozens of aid agencies and NGOs lined up to provide live-saving assistance and the government struggled to come to terms with the sheer scale of the disaster.
