Many of the victims of the shooting in the German town of Hanau had an immigrant background, German magazine Focus said based on a report from news agency dpa that cited security sources.
A suspected right-wing extremist shot nine people dead in two shisha bars in an overnight rampage through a German city before, police believe, returning home and killing himself.
Getaway car belongs 43-year-old German man
The German interior minister of the state of Hesse said the owner of the car used to leave the scene of the shooting was a 43-year-old German man from that town.
Peter Beuth said the car was found at the owner’s address and when a special task force entered it, they found two further people dead - the suspect and his 72-year-old mother.
Police said their information suggested the gunman had committed suicide at his home after fleeing in a car. He is a suspected right-wing extremist.
Federal counter-terror prosecutors said they are taking charge of the investigating into the mass shooting.
Gunman shoots, kills at least eight people
Nine people were killed on Wednesday in two shooting incidents in a German city near Frankfurt and special forces were chasing the gunmen who fled in a car, police said.
The suspect was later found dead in his home, according to police. Another body was also found in the home in Hanau, a city east of Frankfurt where the shooting took place.
“There are no indications that other suspects were involved,” police said on Twitter.
