Russia sent up a MiG-31 fighter jet to escort a Norwegian Poseidon patrol plane away from Russian airspace over the Barents Sea, the Russian defense ministry said on Wednesday.

There was no violation of the air border by the Norwegian patrol plane, the ministry said.

Russia has reported similar incidents before when its planes have confronted military aircraft from NATO countries flying close to its border at a time of acute tension over the war in Ukraine.
