Russia invites U.N. envoy to Syria peace talks
Syrian rivals are expected to meet in Moscow in January for talks on a possible deal
Russia has invited U.N. envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura to attend the peace talks between Syria rivals in Moscow next month, de Mistura's spokeswoman said on Tuesday.
“It's a Russian initiative that focuses on intra-Syrian negotiations,” spokeswoman Juliette Touma told Reuters. “The Office of the Special Envoy will be present at these talks. The Office of the Special Envoy welcomes any initiative that would push forward reaching a peaceful and diplomatic end to the crisis in Syria.”
