Worlds tallest hotel debuts in Dubai
The hotel, at a height of 355 meters, is only 26 meters short of the Empire State Building in New York, the Dubai-based Arabian Business said.
The 82-storey hotel will have the rest of its 802 rooms, all nine restaurants, five bars and lounges open in January; however the grand opening is scheduled to be in February.
“The JW Marriott Marquis will add significantly to Dubai in its drive to become the preferred choice for meetings, incentives, conference and events business,” Arabian Business quoted General Manager Rupprecht Queitsch saying.
“We are working in tandem with the Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing and Dubai Convention Bureau to put Dubai on the global business destination map,” he added.
In July, hotel giant Marriot International reported its Middle East operations for the second quarter of 2012 to be the biggest in comparison to its other operations in the world.
Dubai, which already claimed the world’s highest building, set a new record with Princess Tower being the world’s tallest residential building in May.
In October, the UAE also expanded its record-breaking list by boasting the Middle East’s largest hot-air balloon and the world’s biggest shoe store.
