Iraq FM Warns Iran

Published:

Iraq’s Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari urged Iran to stop attacking Kurdish rebel positions in Iraq as it damages ties between the two neighbors on July 27th.

“The Iraqi foreign ministry has taken all necessary steps to resolve this issue, including summoning the Iranian ambassador and sending diplomatic notices to protest the violations”.

50 Party for Free Life of Kurdistan (PJAK) rebels were killed by Revolutionary Guards since the shelling began, and will continue until Iraq’s deployment of security along the border.

"The shelling has continued for five years, but this time the duration has been longer than previous instances.”

Eight Revolutionary guards have been killed in border clashes after Iranian troops launched a major counterattack on July 16.

According to the Red Cross International Committee the fighting has displaced hundreds of villagers in the border regions of northern Iraq.
