A Qatar Airways plane made an emergency landing at Istanbul's main airport shortly after take-off on Thursday.

In a statement released on its Twitter account, the airline said flight QR240, headed for Doha, was forced to return to Ataturk Airport after being hit by a bird.

All 298 passengers and 14 crew disembarked normally and a replacement aircraft would be sent to Istanbul, the airline added.
