Jordan has decided to increase public transport fates by 10 percent as of Wednesday, just days after the government announced a hike in the price of gasoline and diesel.
This came under a decision adopted by Jordan’s Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC) Director General Salah Lozi, the Jordan Times reported.
The decision to increase fares covers medium and large public buses and all taxis, according Jordan’s Petra News Agency.
The last Jordan increased public transportation fees came in December of 2016 when a 10 percent hike was introduced on all public transport means regardless of the type of fuel used in the vehicle.
According to the Jordan Times, the transport sector accounts for 26 percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
