Global App Summit 2014 opens in Dubai

The two-day conference is the largest app and mobile technology events in the Middle East

The second edition of the Global App Summit 2014 kick-started in Dubai on Wednesday, holding top industry leaders, to discuss means by which to turn the emirate into a smart city.

The two-day conference, held in partnership with the Dubai Economic Council and the support of Dubai Internet City, is the largest app and mobile technology events in the Middle East.

“[Smart City] initiative aims at linking the Emirate’s government services and the public through the use of smart devices accessed freely… this conference has brought together some of the leading minds in the region that are working to bring us closer to the goal of making Dubai into a Smart City,” Dr. Ibrahim Elbadawi, Director at Dubai Economic Council said.

One of the panel discussions, discussing building a smart city and its benefits to residents & businesses, while another one featured the Internet of Things (IOT) and how progress in technology and IOT can be utilized for the benefit of society.

“The summit is a unique celebration of lifestyle and technology that brings together various players from the mobile ecosystem of the region,” Shantanu Phansalkar, CEO of SPI Group and organizer of The Global App Summit 2014, said.

The summit will continue featuring industry leaders on its second day Thursday. These include Regd Snodgrass, CEO, Wearable Technology Labs; Chris Sun Baigong, MD, Mobogenie; Suzanne Bock, Director, WebMedia7; Martin Moleno, CEO, Tupelo; Tommi Raitio, Director, Internet of Things, Intel; Chris Wyatt, CEO, Youtoo; Anil Kumar, Regional Director, Nuance; Amr Salem from Cisco; and Wassim Kabbara from Google.
