Middle East braces for biggest Souq.com’s White Friday sale
Online shoppers get set for another record-breaking four-day shopping festival on region’s largest retail and online marketplace platform
The Middle East is about to witness this week an online shopping extravaganza like never before, with a record-setting four-day shopping fest, from November 23-27 (Wednesday to Saturday).
The sale dubbed the White Friday, was announced by SOUQ.com, the largest retail and online marketplace platform in the region, and will take place across the GCC countries and Egypt via its website and mobile app.
This is the third year the White Friday sale is being organized. Last year, SOUQ.com had sold 600,000 items, while this week’s sale is anticipated to reach a remarkable 1 million items sold.
The online retailer is betting on this figure this year because 50 percent of the sales is expected to be made up of non-electronics.
Of course, electronics items will be there with projected sales of more than 100,000 mobiles, among other tech devices. But there will also be 50,000 items within its newly introduced fashion, apparel and shoes, FMCG and lifestyle categories.
SOUQ.com has also announced that it will be extending the range of new and existing brands and partners across all categories with over 25,000 deals. It is also utilizing the factory-to-consumer model in order to make global brands more accessible to customers, at competitive prices.
According to Ronaldo Mouchawar, CEO & Co-Founder, SOUQ.com, “We have put extra care and effort into customizing the type of deals we offer during this year’s sale as our customers expect to have access to all to newest products, latest technologies and hottest brands on offer.”
For the first time during White Friday, the aim is for all deliveries to the UAE to be dispatched within 48 – 72 hours of purchase. In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which has the largest number of e-commerce shoppers in the region, SOUQ.com has also partnered with Careem for additional support in deliveries. fulfillment.
For customers who prefer using their credit cards, SOUQ.com is partnering with Visa to offer 10 percent off all deals during the White Friday 2016 sale.
Tweaking an American tradition
In 2014, SOUQ.com introduced Black Friday, an American retail tradition, to the Middle East for the first time, naming it White Friday. In the US, it is the Friday after Thanksgiving and said to be the day that shoppers begin their shopping for Christmas.
In respect to Friday being the day of worship, gathering, friends and family, Mouchawar of SOUQ.com e-tailored the shopping extravaganza and coined ‘White Friday’ - a day of prosperity, celebration and joy - making it more relevant to this region.
The rest as they say was retail history for the shopping site, dubbed the ‘Amazon of the Middle East’.
