Dr. Amal Abdullah al-Qubaisi chaired the UAE’s sixth House session, becoming the first ever woman to do so.
She is currently the first deputy speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC) and represents the success of Emirati women in achieving participation in the country’s decision-making process.
Al-Qubaisi said that she is honored and proud that women in UAE are fully supported by the country’s political elite.
She told Al Arabiya that women in the country has made major advancements.
Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, has played a large role in guiding the Federal Council and ensuring the participation of women.
The council has enabled Emirati citizens to participate in the decision-making process, allowing them to vote for seat holders.
One female candidate was elected in the first electoral experience in the country. Women currently account for 22% of the (FNC).
The UAE’s women have presided over a number of permanent and temporary committees, and have had an active role via their participation in conferences at the regional and international levels.
