Kerry says Israel will enjoy ‘enormous’ economic benefits in peace

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Friday urged Israel to seek peace with the Palestinians, saying it would enjoy “enormous” economic benefits if there is peace.

Kerry said the “status quo will not last forever” and that the opportunity for peace will not be guaranteed if the parties refuse to make major concession today toward peace.

He hit back at criticism that the United States was retreating from the world, and the Middle East, saying America was more engaged than ever.

“Far from disengaging, America is proud to be more engaged than ever, and, I believe, is playing as critical a role as ever in the pursuit of global peace, prosperity, and stability,” he said in remarks prepared for delivery.
