Number of AIDS victims in Saudi revealed

More than 1,000 people living in Saudi Arabia have AIDS according to new figures released by the kingdom’s Ministry of Health.

The figures have revealed 1,191 people living with the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) virus in 2015 - 436 of them Saudi nationals.

The ministry documented that between 1984 and 2015, there were a total of 22,952 cases of people infected with AIDS with 6,770 of those being Saudi nationals.

Saudi Arabia Ministry of Health has said it has been successful in running preventative care and treatment for people infected with the virus.

Over the years, 11 specialized health centers were opened in the cities of Riyadh, Jeddah, Makkah, Taif, Assir, Jazan, Dammam and al-Madinah.
