Major decline in number of Saudis fighting abroad

Saudi authorities have said that the number of its citizens fighting abroad with extremist groups have been decreasing in recent years.

They said that there are currently 73 Saudis detained abroad on terrorism-related-charges while the number of those citizens empathizing with ISIS is diminishing.

Spokesman for the Interior Ministry Major General Mansour al-Turki estimated the total number of citizens who have joined extremist groups in various conflict zones at 2,093 personnel: 1,540 in Syria, 147 in Yemen, 31 in each Pakistan and Afghanistan, and five in Iraq.
