Egypt recognizes demarcation of borders with Saudi Arabia

The Egyptian state television stated that the Egyptian government approved the boundaries of the maritime border agreement with Saudi Arabia and forwarded the document to the House of Representatives on Thursday after signing it eight months ago in Cairo.

The agreement relocates the islands of Tiran and Sanafir strategically located in the Red Sea to Saudi Arabia.

The Middle East news agency reported that the adoption of the Convention was “in accordance with the appropriate constitutional procedures applicable in this regard.”

The Egyptian government announced in April the first, that the technical drawings confirm that the islands of Tiran and Sanafir correspond to Saudi Arabia.

A day after approving the agreement, the Egyptian Cabinet disclosed in an official statement that the islands of Tiran and Sanafir positioned in the Red sea fall under the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
