The worshippers in a mosque in the Shamlan district, north-west of the Yemeni capital Sanaa, stood against Houthi attempts to replace the mosque’s preacher with another one affiliated to them.

The video that was circulated by activists, showed the anger of the worshippers and their rejection of the Houthi preacher. They forced him and the gunmen to get out of the mosque.

Some Yemeni websites reported that worshippers at the al-Bar Mosque in Shamlan district were surprised when Houthi gunmen stormed the mosque to impose a new preacher.

Some residents were quoted as saying that the Houthi militants had tried to replace the mosque’s preacher with another one who was affiliated to them, but the worshipers refused to listen to him and sent the militia and preacher out of the mosque.

The video that was circulated by activists showed the worshipers refusing the new Houthi preacher and forcing the militias to get out of the mosque after a furious protest and turmoil.

The Houthi militias are seeking to tighten their control over most of the mosques and places used for teaching and the practicing the memorization of the Holy Quran in Sanaa.
