A thousand families of Egyptian army and police personnel who were killed on duty have been invited to perform Hajj in Mecca this year as per the orders of Saudi King Salman bin Abdel Aziz.

Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Egypt Ahmed Kattan said on Monday that King Salman ordered authorities in the kingdom to host the families to perform Hajj in September.

Kattan said the King’s move is a show of appreciation to the Egyptian army and police who sacrificed their lives in defending their homeland.

Nearly 90,000 Egyptian pilgrims are expected to perform the hajj this year.
