The Turkish ambassador has not been expelled from Saudi Arabia, a top official from the kingdom’s foreign ministry said on Monday, denying reports claiming that he was expelled.

Media outlets continue to rehash news reports claiming that missing Saudi writer Jamal Khashoggi has been killed inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, despite statements from Turkish President Recep Tayib Erdogan himself, who refuted the claims and said he is hopeful the writer will emerge unharmed.

Saudi Arabia’s consul in Istanbul opened up his mission on Saturday in an effort to show that Saudi writer Jamal Khashoggi, who went missing four days ago, was not on the premises and said that talk of his kidnapping was baseless.

On the same day, an official at Saudi Arabia’s consulate in Istanbul had dismissed a Reuters report which cited Turkish officials claiming that Saudi citizen Jamal Khashoggi was killed inside the consulate.
