Secretary-General Antonio Guterres says the United Nations is close to creating conditions for the start of peace talks in Sweden between Yemen’s warring parties in early December, but there is no agreement yet.

The UN chief told reporters Wednesday that this is “a very crucial moment in relation to Yemen.”

He said UN envoy Martin Griffiths has been engaged in shuttle diplomacy, talking to Yemen’s internationally recognized government backed by the Arab coalition and Houthi Shiite militias.

Guterres said starting peace talks “would be an extremely important objective.”

Guterres addressed the topic before he left for the G20 summit in Argentina.
