Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel al-Jubeir said on Thursday that Saudi Arabia is working on minimizing Iran’s influence in Iraq and strengthening relations with Baghdad.

Al-Jubeir had also said earlier the same day that the international community is determined to push back against Iran’s “aggressive” behavior, adding that Saudi Arabia does not want war with Iran.

However, he also said that if Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz, it would generate a “very, very strong reaction.”

“I think the situation is very grave because of the aggressive behavior of Iran,” al-Jubeir told reporters in London.

“When you interfere with international shipping it has an impact on the supply of energy, it has an impact on the price of oil which has an impact on the world economy. It essentially affects almost every person on the globe,” al-Jubeir added.

Iran shot down a US military drone in international airspace over the Strait of Hormuz with a surface-to-air missile early on Thursday.
