Syrian opposition chief visits Daraa to mark Eid

The head of Syria’s main opposition group visited the southern province of Daraa on Thursday to mark the Muslim Eid al-Fitr feast, sources told Agence France-Presse.

Ahmed Jarba, who was recently elected president of the Syrian National Coalition, is touring the country to visit areas controlled by opposition fighters.

“This visit to the south shows that large swathes of Syria, from the north to the south, are in opposition control,” an SNC source told AFP.

Jarba also visited schools housing people forced to flee their homes.

Eid al-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
