Egypt arrests main suspect behind 2009 Cairo bombing

The main suspected behind the 2009 bombing in a popular Cairo tourist street market has been arrested, Egyptian authorities said on Tuesday.

A security source said the suspect was arrested in the province of Beni Suef, Egypt’s Akhbar al-Youm newspaper reported.

The suspect, identified as Khaled Abu al-Khair, was found with two passports, computer flash drives and a laptop with “serious information,” the newspaper added, quoting security sources.

He was also reportedly found in possession of a book with al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri’s teachings.

Abu Khair had been jailed but escaped from prison following the ouster of former President Hosni Mubarak.

He reportedly went to Gaza and returned to Egypt when Mohammad Mursi came to power.

The attack that shook the popular Hussein market killed one French tourist and wounded d 27 others.
