Saudi Arabia’s religious police in the province of Jazan have confiscated Guy Fawkes masks, popularized in the movie ‘V for Vendetta,’ which are being sold ahead of the kingdom’s 83rd National Day on Monday.

A spokesman for the religious police, formally known as the Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, told the al-Watan daily that they were only implementing an interior ministry ban on the sale of Guy Fawkes masks.

Previously, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance asked mosque imams and school teachers to caution youths from wearing these masks, the Saudi-based Arab News reported.
