Yemeni military and security officials says that the death toll from a prison break in the capital has reached 10, and that al-Qaeda received help from inside the prison to facilitate the escape of 29 inmates.

Maj. Gen. Mohammed Ali al-Zaelib told the Defense Ministry's online newspaper on Friday that one officer, seven soldiers and two civilians were killed by a car bomb and heavy gunfire from militants during the attack.

Security officials said that al-Qaeda recruited security guards who provided information and support in return for money. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the press.
