Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavarov held talks on Friday with Saudi officials in the Red Sea port of Jeddah and “discussed bilateral relations” and “the situation in the Middle East,” the official news agency SPA reported.

Lavrov met with Prince Muqrin bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the second-in-line to the throne, and is expected to meet Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal on Saturday "for talks on several issues, with developments in Syria at the top of the agenda," AFP reported, quoting an unmade official.

Russia backs Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's government in the more than three-year conflict, while Saudi Arabia supports the rebels trying to oust him.
