The Kuwaiti foreign ministry denied on Monday the withdrawal of its ambassador from Iraq, an Al Arabiya correspondent reported.

“The ambassador will remain active in Baghdad until further notice,” the ministry said in a statement.

The diplomatic team will also remain in the Iraqi capital, the statement added.

The statement followed media reports that Kuwait had withdrawn its ambassador from Iraq due to the security situation there.

Since the beginning of June, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) gained control of many swathes of Iraqi territories including Mosul, the country’s second largest city.

Their main objective is to fight the Shiite government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki.
