Recent unrest in Tripoli has been linked to an ongoing standoff between the Lebanese army and Islamist fighters holed up in the northeastern border town of Arsal.

A ceasefire between the army and the militants was in effect Wednesday as Muslim clerics attempted to mediate between the sides to secure the release of members of the security forces who had been captured when the fighters overran military positions in the town over the weekend.
