Members of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) caught on film the recent fighting between Israel and Hezbollah that led to the death of a Spanish U.N. peacekeeper.

The video, that appears to have been taken from inside a vehicle, captures the moment before the exchange of fire thought to have claimed the life of Francisco Javier Soria Toledo, a Spanish UNIFIL peacekeeper.

Tension between Hezbollah and Israel intensified last week after an airstrike, believed to have been carried out by Israel, killed several senior members of the Shiite group, prompting - days later - retaliation by Hezbollah that killed two Israeli soldiers.

Israel responded with artillery fire and air strikes in southern Lebanon, where Toledo was killed.  Haaretz reported that some 100 artillery shells were fired, as well as tank fire in the attack, Haaretz newspaper reported on Sunday.

The Israeli military said that though the circumstances were still unclear, they regretted the incident.

The Israeli prime minister has contacted his Spanish counterpart over the incident and the two agreed to hold a joint investigation into Toledo’s death, Haaretz reported.
