Revolt and anger in Lebanon after ex-minister’s release

The atmosphere in Lebanon was tense following the release of former Information Minister Michel Samaha from jail by a military court.

Samaha, a close friend to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, was serving a jail term for smuggling explosives into Lebanon from Syria and planning attacks, the national news agency said.

On the streets, angry protesters blocked several roads with burning tires, while many politicians expressed their consternation.
