Syrians desperate to flee the civil war and North Africans escaping poverty have created what is now the largest migration in Europe since the end of World War II

More than 260000 Syrian have crossed the Mediterranean in the hope of settling in Europe this year have arrived in Greece .
and most of those have landed on the five Greek islands closest to the Turkish coast.

Meters from the shore, many of them cry and smile showing their joy.
