Jim Hanson, President, Security Studies Group and former Army Special Forces, commenting on the shooting and stabbing incident on Tuesday in the eastern French city of Strasbourg, called for crippling sanctions against countries like Qatar that support terrorism.

Hanson tweeted that the “attack reminds us there are still countries like #Qatar who are funding terrorism. Until they end this they should face crippling sanctions.”

The attack claimed three lives and 13 were injured.

The suspected gunman Cherif Chekatt had attacked the city's Christmas market and also exchanged fire with officers on Tuesday night after getting out of a taxi.

According to latest reports by AFP, more than 700 French security forces have been trying to trace Chekatt since the bloodshed on Tuesday.
