Trust is the key in getting things done. Without trust you spend forever checking and cross checking and looking for evidence to either confirm or deny whether you should trust.
Some people and organizations start with trusting no-one and take a long time to build trust and are scared to take the risks required to build the trust. If you start by being suspicious of everyone then they will be suspicious of you – and then wonder why no-one trusts you.
Others, like me, start with trusting others and sometimes get disappointed with the results.
Here in the Middle East the, connections people start with are family and trust family above everything else. This means they do not develop the skills to learn to assess outsiders, especially those from other cultures. Failure to deliver the trust can result in family feuds.
One thing is for certain though it can take a while to build the trust and seconds to destroy it.

What people tell you (and how do they know)? The news feeds you get on Facebook and other social media (selected information to give the illusion of news rather than being a vehicle to support the advertising model)?
Business guru Stephen M. R. Covey asserts, "The ability to establish, extend, and restore trust with all stakeholders – customers, business partners, investors and co-workers – is the key leadership competency of the new, global economy." Leaders are rediscovering trust as a critical, highly relevant, performance multiplier.
Four Cores of Trust
You can only be trusted if you have Character and Competency. A person of integrity that does not produce results is not credible. If you are not credible, you are not trustworthy!
Integrity is more than honesty; Congruency when there is no gap between what one intends to do and what one actually does. Courage is the ability to do the right thing even when it may be difficult. It is when you do what you know is right regardless of the possible consequences. Humility is the ability to look out for the good of others in addition to what is good for you. “A humble person is more concerned about what is right than about being right, about acting on good ideas than about having the ideas, about embracing new truth than defending an outdated position, about building the team than exalting self, about recognizing contribution than being recognized for it.”
Intent is how we know we should act. Motive is why you do what you do. The best motive in building trust is genuinely caring about people. Agenda stems from our motive. The best agenda is honestly seeking what is good for others. Behaviour is putting your agenda into practice. Behaviour is important because it is what people see and judge.
Capabilities are the Talents, Attitude, Skills, Knowledge, and Style that enable us to perform with excellence. Talents are the things you naturally do well whereas skills are the things you have learned to do well. Knowledge is what you know and continue to learn your attitude is how you see things and Style is your unique way of doing things.
Results are not activity, results are the deliverables. People don't trust people who don’t deliver results. They are what you contribute to the company. You can’t hide from your results. There are three areas of results people look at to judge your credibility. First, your past results: what you have proven you can do. Second, your current results: what you are contributing right now. Third, your potential results: what people anticipate you will accomplish in the future. “Results are all about finishing. Beginners are many; finishers are few.”
Trust is about trusting yourself, trusting others and having others trust you.
