French oil and gas company Total will lower oil production in countries where it operates if governments decide on a quota, Chief Executive Officer Patrick Pouyanne told an energy conference in Istanbul on Tuesday.

“As a company I am driven by maximising production... if a policy is decided by a government we will apply the policy. If OPEC decides on a quota we will apply the quota,” Pouyanne said at the World Energy Congress in Turkey.

Total has oil development contracts with OPEC producers including the United Arab Emirates and Iraq.
