Google House debuted in Dubai, its first foray into the Middle East, on Tuesday, compiling its flagship products and technologies under one roof.
The make-shift “home” featured five different rooms, representing different applications and technologies geared towards making everyday tasks easier.
“We’d like to give you the information at just the right time, we call Google Now the ‘digital assistant around the clock’,” Joyce Baz, Google’s communications manager in the UAE, told Al Arabiya News.
Google Now is the company’s latest technology, which provides search result in real time. The technology is integrated Google’s popular products. For instance, when searching a location or directions on Google Maps, Google Now provides all the potential routes to reach the destination, As well as live traffic updates, and estimated time needed to reach, all in real time.
The main application promoted in Dubai’s Google House was the voice search feature, which can lead a user to different products and technologies. Also highlighted was Google Maps, which locates routes to destinations and provides a 3D view of any chosen location - an application also useful for people traveling abroad, or for those who want to see the world from the comfort of their home.
Meanwhile in the kitchen, the voice search function can help users research recipes and learn cooking tips, among other services.
Google House also featured Google Education, a range of products aimed at helping students with projects and quickly locating needed information in print, image and video formats. The education function also features online Google Docs, where users can edit their work online in real time, rather than end up with several versions of a document saved in cyberspace.
Google has even tapped into the world of fashion. Google Trends, for example, can be used to locate new fashion trends, choose the most popular make up for the summer or other seasons, and learn how to get the look it via YouTube tutorials.
Google Glass was also available for tryout in the Google House. The company’s hottest product is a wearable digital gadget with optical head-mounted display. It displays information through natural language voice commands.
Google Glass is currently only available for a sample of individuals in the United States, as the product is still “work-in-progress,” according to Google.SHOW MORE
