Dubai police announced that its officers may start using the Google Glass to keep them ahead of crime, Dubai-based 7 Days reported on Tuesday.

Officials in the Smart Services Department revealed the officers will be using a face recognition technology , and sync the department’s wanted suspects.

“The software that we developed internally enables us to connect a database of wanted people with the glass,” Colonel Khalid Nasser al-Razooqi, director general of the department, was quoted by the newspaper as saying.

“Once the glass recognizes the suspect based on a face print, it will give an alert to the officer wearing it,” he added.

The Google technology, rolled out earlier this year with a prices reaching as high as 10,000 dirhams ($2,722), will be part of Dubai Police’s target to have the “smartest” police station in the world by 2018, according to 7 Days.

There are four pairs of Google glasses currently being made available to Dubai police officers.
