Relatives of ISIS victims speak out after al-Baghdadi’s death

The news of the death of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was not enough consolation for many of those who suffered at the hands of the organization.

“If only the news I heard was of the death of them all, that might have eased things a bit,” said Um Alaa, the wife of a man killed by ISIS for speaking out against the terrorist organization, told Al Arabiya.

Her son Alaa told Al Arabiya how ISIS destroyed their family home in Iraq’s Saladin governorate. The organization then killed Um Alaa's husband Hamed Saleh and the couple's son, Safaa.

The rest of his family fled the country for Jordan soon after to escape ISIS’ death threats.

According to Alaa, ISIS threatened to kill his father because he used to speak out against ISIS gangs.

“They killed my father, they killed my brother, and they threatened to kill the whole family, they threatened me, and threatened to kill my siblings,” Alaa said.

Their case is just one of many incidents of ISIS bruality. US President Donald Trump announced the death of ISIS leader al-Baghdadi on Sunday, describing how al-Baghdadi “died like a coward, like a dog,” after being chased down a tunnel by US special forces.
