As barber shops and salons shut down all over the world due to partial or total coronavirus lockdowns, men are taking matters into their own hands.
Some even took part in dares and challenges on social media.
UAE national team football player Mohammed Fawzi shared a video of himself holding a shaver and dancing to the Drake song “Flip the switch,” a song made popular by a social media challenge. The video goes black when the light is “switched” off, before Fawzi reappears a second later with a shaved head. He captioned the video “Stay at home.”
Social media influencer Amen shared the process with his Snapchat followers as well. He started by brushing his long hair, then reappears with a shaved head.
Dubai-based barber Abed Abuidrie said he saw a spike in requests for shorter haircuts right before tighter measures were implemented to slow the spread of the virus in the UAE. Then he started receiving more requests for recommendations on shaver types and brands for personal use.
