Saudi Arabia releases ‘cultural status report’, says 4 million viewers for cinema

Saudi Arabia Ministry of Culture has released its first “cultural status report” in which it documented the Kingdom’s achievements in various sectors, including the statistic that four million people attended cinemas in Saudi Arabia since launching in April 2018.

The full 429-page report titled " Cultural Status Report 2019: Features and Statistics” was released on Wednesday which documented extensively the cultural accomplishments and standings within the Kingdom across various fields and sectors.

The report includes all the details, numbers, and statistics of the cultural status within Saudi Arabia up until 2019.

Specifically, it looked at 16 cultural subcategories and sectors which were: Heritage, museums, cultural and archaeological sites, theater and performing arts, books and publishing, architecture and design, natural heritage, movies, fashion, language and translation, culinary arts, festivals and cultural events, literature, libraries, visual arts, and music.

The report also included a chapter devoted to following up on the most important cultural indicators that provide "quantitative" measures of the state of culture within the Kingdom in three aspects: cultural production, distribution and presentation, and cultural participation.

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Culture released details of its national strategy and vision at the King Abdulaziz Historical Center in Riyadh last March, including details of its vision, policies, and the initiatives that have already been planned and the cultural sectors it will support.
