George Clooney cuts short wedding date conjecture

Hollywood heartthrob George Clooney has put an end to speculation regarding the date of his wedding to his British-Lebanese fiancee Amal Alamuddin, indicating that the wedding would take place in Venice within two weeks.

“I met my lovely bride-to-be here in Italy, whom I will be marrying, in a couple of weeks, in Venice, of all places,” said Clooney, who along with Alamuddin was spotted in the Italian city, the Daily Mail reported.

The 53-year actor, who was speaking at a black-tie charity gala in Florence, had earlier considered his villa on Lake Como as the venue for his wedding, but scrapped that idea as the prominence of the property would offer little privacy.

The Hollywood star’s comments seem to confirm earlier suspicions that the event would be held in Venice on Sept. 12, with actors including Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Matt Damon on the guest list.

Clooney’s appearance on Celebrity Fight Night was his first since his trip to Dusseldorf last night where he underwent treatment for a back injury sustained while filming “Syriana,” the film that won him an Oscar for best supporting actor.

The event itself, held in support of the Andres Bocelli Foundation and The Muhammad Ali Parkinson Centre, marks its first appearance outside the U.S.
