Avoid raising eyebrows with these easy brow styling tips

When it comes to brows, choosing the right shape is very important as they define your face and overall look.

When it comes to brows, choosing the right shape is very important as they define your face and overall look. Your eyes are the windows to your soul and your eyebrows are the window dressing. Having groomed and perfectly shaped brows doesn’t have to be difficult and can easily be achieved at home using the right tools.

Here are some great tips on how to achieve the brows of your dreams.

Determine the shape of your brows

While everyone’s natural brow shape is different, these basic rules are for everyone. The most desired brow shape is for the beginning of the brow to align with the center of the nostril. The arch should fall toward the outer third of the eye, and the eyebrow should follow the length of the eye but not extend into the temple area.

By using a makeup brush as a ruler (or any other straight edge), you can measure a straight line from the edge of your nostril up to the inner corner of your eye and up to the eyebrow. This is where your brow should start. Next, measure a line from the same edge of your nostril to the outer corner of the same eye. This is where the brow should end.

Clean up hairs

Once you’ve determined which brow shape suits your face and overall look, start cleaning the brows by tweezing off unwanted hairs. By using a sharp and powerful tweezer, you can remove the smallest hairs from the roots. If you suffer from sensitivity around your eyes (especially when tweezing), prepare the skin around the eyes first. This “Beauty Fixation Pre Tweeze Treatment” helps to numb the surrounding skin and prevents irritation on the skin after tweezing.

Trim the hairs

Usually after tweezing the brows, there are still a few unruly hairs that need to be trimmed off. Using a spooly or brow comb, brush your eyebrow hairs up. Then, use a sharp pair of scissors to trim the long hairs. The hairs that stick out above your line can be trimmed but be careful not to trim off too much hair.

Fill in the gaps

Not everyone has been blessed with thick and perfect brows - most of us have those annoying gaps that need to be filled when shaping the brow. A great way to fill in the gaps is by using a brow pencil that has a small tip; this makes it look more natural and effortless. If you have an oily skin, prime your eyelids and brows first (this extends the longevity of the products). Then, start filling in the gaps by using small strokes.

Fake it ‘til you make it

If you have the perfect brow shape in mind but the gaps are too dominating, fake it by using a brow stencil. Many brands offer great brow stencils, this will help you to create the perfect hassle-free arch. With five shapes to choose from, Anastasia Beverly Hills’s stencils are the ideal tool for this.

Complete the look by using a waterproof brow gel or pomade. Place the stencil over your brow and lightly fill in the shape by using an angled brush. Make sure to keep the beginning of the brows very light and darker towards the arch to create a well defined, yet natural looking shape.

Lock the brows

Finish off the look by using a brow gel to keep the hairs in place because you don’t want your hard work getting undone so quickly. If you’re happy with the color of your brows, use a clear gel. If you’d like to lighten or darken them up, use a tinted brow gel. Both formulas will lock in the brows and prevent them from budging.
