WATCH: 70-year-old Saudi man challenges youth at Riyadh marathon

A 70-year-old Saudi man, Khalaf al-Blewy, competing at this year’s Riyadh International Marathon said that he was excited to take part in the event since he has been practicing this sport for years.

Speaking to Al Arabiya News Channel, Blewy said that he was also taking part to encourage the youth around the country.

“I’ve been running for years and I wanted to take part to encourage the youth. This sport also helps in preventing illnesses,” he said. Encouragement is not the only motive behind his participation, as Blewy puts it “I intend to win the 20 kilometer race.”

The athletic enthusiast said that he consistently competed in former local running competition which include ones in Abha, al-Jawf, Tabuk. According to Blewy, he even earned first place in a military base contest.
