Coronavirus: Londoners enjoy outdoor exercise amid warnings to adhere to rules

Londoners were seen enjoying exercise in the warm Spring weather on Sunday, amid warnings from the health minister that it could be banned if people flout social distancing rules.

In London’s south, people were spotted running, cycling, and boxing outdoors in Peckham Rye. At Brockwell Park, the gates were closed but a few people were seen strolling inside the park.

The Lambeth Council closed Brockwell Park on Sunday after it said people had sunbathed or gathered in large groups there on Saturday.

Health Minister Matt Hancock said on Sunday it was “unbelievable” to see a small minority flouting the government’s rules designed to curb transmission of the coronavirus.

If people did not follow the rules, which allow people to walk, run or cycle outdoors once a day but not sunbathe, he said he would have to ban exercise of all forms outside the home.
