Coronavirus: Streets blocked in Washington DC to enforce social distancing

Streets surrounding the cherry blossom-studded Tidal Basin in Washington were barricaded by police on Monday as authorities aim to curb large numbers of people gathering to view the iconic trees in full bloom.

Over the weekend, thousands of people ignored warnings to stay away from the Tidal Basin to avoid the potential spreading of the coronavirus.

Police cars, large trucks, and yellow caution tape were put in place to keep people away.

Popular tourist sites along the National Mall were largely deserted as most began to heed the warnings from officials.
